In the framework of the SHAAMS Social accelerator activities, WWF, Funditec and the Chamber of Commerce of Barcelona, organised the celebration of 4 workshops on solar energy in Catalan schools. The workshops took place on the 4th, 10th, 17th and 24th of February at the schools’ premises and counted with the participation of students aged between 12 and 16 years.

The workshops were divided in two specific sections. The first section was intended to introduce the SHAAMS project and its main objectives to the students; as part of a major dissemination effort this part of the workshop was supported by the activities conducted by WWF for the preparation of the world-wide Earth Hour Event. During, this part of the workshops, the students were also informed about the norms that will regulate the video competition and the journalism workshop organised by the project as well as about the role of the Sun Clubs.

During the second part of the sessions the students received practical information on the use of renewable energies and, more specifically, solar energy. In order to guarantee the success of the sessions and to capture the students’ interest, the training took the form of practical tests, experiments and the handling of renewable-energy-oriented devices and gadgets.

Throughout all the training sessions, the project organisers could verify the students’ interest and willingness to learn, something that confirms the need to promote the awareness and proactiveness of our young generations in the use of solar energy.
