On November 17th, the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce organized the SHAAMS B2B Matchmaking Event, a brokerage event aiming at promoting cooperation in the solar energy sector. The SHAAMS Matchmaking event was held as a parallel session during the “I Mediterranean Solar Forum”, a Capitalization event within the framework of the 8th edition of the Mediterranean Week of Economic Leaders (26-28 November 2014, Barcelona).
A total of 46 professionals of solar energy sector attended the event. The most representative category was SMEs (29%) followed by Public Entities and Universities (16%); Clusters and Associations (13%); Multinationals (10%) such as Gamesa,, Bosch and Healthtourbarcelos; Chambers of Commerce and NGOs (3%).
Regarding the sectors represented, the main participants were from Energy & Environment and Design & Engineering, but there were also representatives from ICT, Mobility and Transports, Services for Businesses and Industry and Construction & Architecture.
Mostly half of the institutions which attended the event came from Spain, the host country. The first foreign country in terms of assistance was Lebanon, followed by Italy, Egypt, Greece, Jordan and France.
The main interests when meeting others in the B2B Matchmaking were Multinationals, SMEs, Technological Centers and Public entities.
Mr. Said Chehab, President of ALMEE, The Lebanese Association for Energy Saving & for Environment, valued the meeting with Mr. Raffaele Mancini from WWF (Italy) very positively to start new cooperation projects at regional and local level.
Mr. Omar Ababneh form Al Urdonia Lil Ebda (Jordan) found the meetings with Mr. Alfredo Fernandez from Gamesa and with Mr. Ricard Pardell from Valldoreix Greenpower (Spain) very promising to establish future cooperations on technical support.
Mr. George Plokamakis from the Hellenic Electrical Distribution Network Operation in Greece established contact for energy research with Ms. Marta Garcia from Ecoserveis (Spain).

I Mediterranean Solar Forum
The I Mediterranean Solar Forum brought together around 120 participants from governments, international organizations, project promoters and private investors, to reflect and discuss the challenges and opportunities that solar energy represents for the Mediterranean, taking into consideration its strategic importance as an abundant and sustainable energy source for the region.
The Forum gathered, for the first time, the projects of the ENPI CBC MED Solar cluster established in Amman, Jordan, in October 2013 and composed of all the ENPI CBC MED Strategic projects promoting the growth of the Mediterranean Solar sector: SHAAMS; FOSTEr in MED; MED SOLAR; DIDSOLIT-PB and MED DESIRE.
The I Mediterranean Solar Forum focused on social impact, training, policy impact and the present and future challenges in the solar sector.
